Martin Carruthers

Basford United

Martin Carruthers is a 52-year old football coach serving as the of Basford United Football Club . He has previously been associated with Grantham Town, Ilkeston Town, Matlock Town and Scunthorpe United during his career.

He is the holder of a UEFA A Licence.

Starting his journey with Aston Villa, Carruthers moved through several clubs including Hull City, Stoke City, Peterborough United, York City, Darlington, Southend United, Scunthorpe United, Macclesfield Town, Boston United, Lincoln City, and Cambridge United as a forward. His most notable stint was at Scunthorpe United, where he scored 34 goals in 86 league games.

After retiring from professional football, Carruthers transitioned into non-league football, playing for Grantham Town and Ilkeston Town among others. He began his coaching career as player-assistant manager at Ilkeston Town and later held managerial roles at Arnold Town and Basford United, where he became player-manager in 2013. He also managed Quorn and had a successful spell at Ilkeston Town, leading them to promotion as champions of the Northern Premier League Division One Midlands in the 2021-22 season.
